We are big fans of Gimme! Coffee here at SingleServeEspresso.com, as their attention to detail and their passion for espresso and coffee pay off. We knew exactly what coffee we wanted to use when we got the Jura Capresso Impressa E8 in for review (Read it) and we wanted a Leftist; not any leftist, but the Gimme! Coffee Leftist whole bean that is a rock solid espresso blend. Gimme! Coffee is a small operation with only a handful of stores in Ithaca NY, with one in NYC too. They were recently featured as part of a video story in the NY Times where they talked about the new wave of espresso excellence sweeping the nation’s coffee shops. It’s not a surprise to us that we enjoyed the Leftist blend in the Impressa E8, but what was surprising was how truly good it was.
We picked up the Leftist blend in Ithaca, and it must have been only a few hours old. We immediately brought it back and dumped it in the Impressa E8 for a test run. The Impressa E8 turns out some serious crèma when it runs on Leftist, but what was surprising was the texture of the foam and the overall taste. The crèma has structure to it, not unlike a true German Pilsner served up properly at a bar in Germany; spongy and slightly sweet. The espresso was also especially good, as it had a nicely rounded roasted, nutty notes and a subtle caramel-like flavor and sweetness that came through. After a few days, some of the top-note liveliness subsided and we got down to some solid espresso. It didn’t get better or worse after a couple of days, just a different goodness. The body firmed up and the top-notes fell off leaving a wonderful flavor and all around great cup of espresso. It is not burnt at all, but instead preserves some of the flavors that are meant to be in coffee, while still packing a punch.
The Gimme! Coffee Leftist blend is now a standard around here at SingleServeEspresso.com we liked it so much. It brews up wonderfully in the Jura Capresso E8 Super Automatic Espresso Machine, helping to crank out great espresso after great espresso. Gimme! Coffee Leftist Blend is available at their website.
