Review: Gloria Jean's Black Gold K-Cup Review
So, again, we're taking a look at some other K-cups from the point of view of an espresso drinker, and I stumbled onto a good one. So, we have this rather nice looking Keurig B70 brewer sitting in our kitchen that I already wrote about, saying that the B70 brought harmony to our kitchen by allowing us to brew what we want from a wide variety of K-cups. In the first review of K-Cups where I landed on a combination of Green Mountain Organic Sumatran Extra Bold and Timothy's Rain Forest Espresso in to the same cup as nirvana. One of our readers, Cheezr, suggested Gloria Jean's Black Magic Extra Bold K-cups and I have to say that the are pretty good.
Gloria Jean's makes a lot of different varieties of K-Cups, and I'll be looking at a few over the coming weeks. Their blends are numerous and this one is built on a French Roast style base with some added complexity. I brewed this up at the 7.25 ounce setting on the B70, and had a very nice cup of coffee. I think the Extra Bold coffees is where I need to be with K-cups, or I need to brew things at the smaller cup size. The Gloria Jean's Black Gold was pretty good, with a nice dark roasted flavor up front combined with a mellow but pronounced mocha flavors in the finish. It's fairly bright, without being to sour, and has a moderately full body to it. It will also stand up to milk without difficulty. I like it, and it's a little bit more lively than Lake and Lodge from Green Mountain. It's still not quite as good as my Sumatran/Espresso mash-up, but for me it's the best K-cup I have found so far for a straight shot of coffee.
Stay tuned, we have more K-cup tastings to come....
Jay also reviewed the Gloria Jean's Black Gold K-cups over at Single Serve Coffee earlier this year.

Glad you liked it. I always make the GJBG Xtra Bold on the smallest k-cup setting for the kick!
Make sure to also try the Tulleys French Roast on the smallest size cup it is also excellent, cant decide which one i like better.
Of course w/the purchase of my Braun Xpresso machine I am now cruzing on (among others) Starbucks e.s.e. pods which are IMHO, surprisingly very good!
