Review: Gevalia Peppermint Mocha Limited Edition

It's that time of year, when the holiday flavors come flooding to the market, and Gevalia/Tassimo is not alone. On the heels of Pumpkin Spice, comes the Gevalia Peppermint Mocha T-Disks. Winter, and especially the holiday season seems to have the aroma stitched into its fabric, so it's natural to have the Gevalia Peppermint Mocha around to to help welcome the holidays.

The Gevalia Peppermint Mocha comes with eight large T-discks of peppermint flavored chocolate syrup, and eight Gevalia Espresso T-disks. The extra heft of the chocolate syrup disk may be a little surprising the first time you open the pack, as they are about twice the size of the espresso T-disks, and as a result, the package contains two boxes (4 per box) of the chocolate syrup T-Disks to the one box (8 each) of espressos.

Today, we're making the Peppermint Mocha on a Tassimo T-20 made by Bosch. More after the jump.

Brewing the Gevalia Peppermint Mocha

The Chocolate Syrup T-Disck goes in first, and takes a while to brew. The reader in the machine knows the right cycle, and brew time based on the disk. What you get is a great aroma of mint with a hint of chocolate as it brews, and a nice frothy chocolate base, ready for the espresso. The brew starts with a pre-dosing of hot water which probably smooths the chocolate syrup out, warms it and then gets it ready for the full brew. The espresso disk is a faster brew, and takes just a few seconds once it's going. The result of a pretty tasty looking Mocha that fills the kitchen with a scent of mint.

Taste

Mochas are designed to be sweet, and this one definitely is. The mint is a smooth mint flavor, with a lot of aroma as you sip your drink. The chocolate/mocha flavor is a little overpowered by the mint, and the sweetness is followed by a smooth lingering mint flavor. There is no bitter aftertaste.

Summary - Gevalia Peppermint Mocha

If you like a peppermint mocha, this is very much worth a try. The coffee flavors are a little lighter than you might expect from a Starbucks beverage, but the peppermint aroma can help welcome the season. The convenience of having a mocha at home, and enjoying it as you decorate, or maybe even in the morning as you get ready for a cooler days in December, is enticing. Enjoy.
