Starbucks DoubleShot Recipe Knock-Off

So one of our readers passed this along and I thought it would be a good thing to have hanging around here.I tried it and it tastes pretty darn good. If you can handle the half and half, good for you, and I supposed if you drink enough of these, you'll be able to burn off the calories with all the caffeine in your system.

I used espresso from the Starbucks ESE Espresso Pods for the recipe:

2 ounces of Starbucks Espresso from Starbucks ESE Espresso pod
2 ounces of Half and Half
2 ounces of low fat milk
1+ tsp sugar

Pour over ice. The thing scales pretty easily, so make a bit and have it over a couple of days if you keep it refrigerated.

Starbucks selling More Music and at iTunes

You've seen the CD's at Starbucks and maybe you've even bought one while sipping an espresso or latte. Well, these alternate channels for music can generate big sales, and Starbucks has announced a partnership with iTunes to offer their "Hear Music" line of CD titles through the omnipresent iTunes.

“We’re excited to work with iTunes to add a significant new digital experience to the innovative buying experience we’ve been offering in Starbucks locations for more than 10 years,” said Ken Lombard, president of Starbucks Entertainment. “Many of our customers want to listen to our music on their iPods, and now that will be easier than ever.”

Starbucks Coffee Coming to a Vending Machine Near You

Starbucksvending.jpeg
Starbucks is launching an initiative to bring hot espresso and coffee drinks to vending machines, a common sight in Japan, not so common in the US. The vending machines would dispense a nine ounce can of coffee with a special insulated label to keep your hands from being scorched. Hot beverage offerings will include Caffè Latte, Vanilla Latte, Caffè Mocha, Caffè Mocha Light, and Hot Cocoa. Hot vending machines will start to roll out in 2007, the machines will be equipped to take pre-paid cards, credit and debit cards as well as plain old cash.

More Starbucks Cafes Coming - a lot more

starbuckslogo.jpg

So, Starbucks said yesterday that they are upping the goal for owning covering the planet with their Famous Starbucks Coffee Shops. How many coffee shops did you say? Yea, they said that they want to have somewhere in the neighborhood of 40,000 shops world wide ultimately, an increase over the 30,000 shops that they had as their previous goal. More power to them I say, that just makes it easier to get the Starbucks ESE Espresso pods, and a decent espresso where ever I go. Even if you don't like them, you have to admit that with their Fair Trade program and the charitable work that they do, the company is making a positive impact where they can while making a buck. I wish more companies had that mindset.

Cooler Weather and Crema Coffee

So now that the weather is cooling off, sometimes the espresso in the morning isn’t quite doing it as far as warming things up. Let’s face it, a quick couple of ounces of warm espresso doesn’t quite warm you like a warm cup of coffee that you can wrap your hands around. Have no fear; Crema Coffee is here. With the Jura Capresso Impressa E8 (see our review), I have been dialing in a 5.5-ounce pour with a “strong” setting on the amount of coffee dropped. The result is a more dilute, but warming experience that still tastes great. The alternative is to make an Americano that has you pulling a shot into a cup, and then pumping in hot water on top of it. This may be a bit more pure as you don’t over extract the coffee getting some of the nasties out of it, but the Crema Coffee seems fine for now, and it’s a one-step process. You can do the same with most espresso machines by getting hot water out of the steam wand for the Americano, or letting the brew go long for a cream coffee.

K-Cups, a Keurig B70 Brewer and Harmony in our Kitchen

B70Keurig.jpg

OK, not exactly espresso, but hey you have to experiment every now and then, right. A perk of being the sister site to SingleServeCoffee.com is that you get to exchange ideas and coffee machines every now and then. We’ve got a Keurig B70 brewer in our kitchen right now, and that allows us to choose anything between a lightly roasted K-cup all the way to a potent espresso, at any time, which has brought harmony to our kitchen. My wife, who appreciates lighter roasted coffee more than I do, appreciates the options available now that a few boxes of K-cups can bring.

New: Starbucks DoubleShot Light and Iced Coffee

doubleshotlight_edited.jpg
So you must know about Starbucks DoubleShots; those little power shots of espresso in the little black cans? Well the Starbucks DoubleShots got some stable mates this year that if you haven’t tried them, you should. Starbucks launched a DoubleShot light that drops the calories significantly without killing the buzz. The same strong flavor is there, just a lot less sugar and a bit less fat. The sweetness is still there with a little sucralose (same ingredient in Splenda) and Ace-K, another artificial sweetener. Anway, the calories are dropped in half; not bad. How many calories in Starbucks DoubleShot Light, you ask? Only 70 calories.

starbucksicedcoffee.jpgThe other addition to the line comes in the form of a larger can – 11 oz to be exact, Starbucks Iced Coffee and Starbucks Iced Coffee Light. The regular has a nice creamy taste and is loaded with 200mg of caffeine, more than the 130 mg of caffeine in the espresso based Starbucks DoubleShot. So, power up and enjoy the nice taste of iced coffee away from the café. How many calories here? The Starbucks Iced Coffee has 100 calories and the Starbucks Iced Coffee Light has a miniscule 35 calories, which is achieved through the same yank sugar and add ace-k sweetener.

I’d recommend trying them out; available at the local grocery store.

Search the Couch Cushions for Spare Change

nickel.jpegYour espresso habit is about to cost a bit more, but not by much. Citing rising green coffee costs and also the rising cost of healthcare, Starbucks is raising the prices on beverages by 5 cents at stores starting in October. A pound of coffee is expected to go up by about 50 cents. But, hey, apparently that's the first price increase on whole bean coffee in nine years.

Text your Coffee Order; Skip the Line - GoMobo.com

gomobologo.gif
Tired of waiting in line for coffee? Well a simple text to GoMobo.com can help you skip the line and still get your favorite coffee. The idea is this: Set up an account, text a code and a pick-up time to GoMobo, and they relay the order to your favorite shop. You show up at the pick-up time and your order is waiting. The code is so that you don’t have to text “Grande Skinny Soy Latte, extra hot” while driving down the road…. Partners are limited and you’ll be waiting a while to get one in your area unless you live in the Northeast.

Caribou Coffee Granola Bars Available Online

cariboucoffeebars.jpeg
So, we stumbled onto these delicious Caribou Coffee Granola Bars a while ago, and there are still pretty hard to find in the stores. They come in Mocha and Vanilla Latte flavors. I originally had the Mocha flavored ones, and though that they tasted great. They have one of the best coffee flavors in something like this I have ever had. A lot of readers have been asking about where to buy them, and we recently found out that the Caribou Coffee Granola Bars are available at the Caribou Coffee website store. Now the store is offering them individually, but I am hoping to get them in teh original 6-pack box that I got them at the local supermarket.
